AFTER A ROBUST MAJORITY OF PITT GRAD WORKERS SIGNED USW UNION AUTHORIZATION CARDS, WE FILED FOR A UNION ELECTION WITH THE STATE LABOR BOARD. THE ELECTION WAS HELD NOVEMBER 18-21, 2024 FOR EVERY GSR, GSA, TA AND TF AT PITT—AND WE WON! NOW WE’LL BEGIN PREPARING FOR OUR FIRST CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS.
On January 30th, hundreds of grad workers rallied in the Cathedral of Learning to formally request that Chancellor Gabel recognize our union.
On January 30th, hundreds of grad workers rallied in the Cathedral of Learning to formally request that Chancellor Gabel recognize our union. A majority of us have already made our decision to unionize. Like so many grad workers across the country and so many of our colleagues and co-workers at Pitt, an overwhelming majority of us are ready to negotiate with the university administration over our stipends, benefits, and working conditions.
On January 31st, we brought our signed union cards to the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board and filed a petition for a union election.
The labor board held our election November 18-21, 2024 for every TA, TF, GSA, and GSR at Pitt. On November 22, 2024 they counted the ballots and announced we won our union!
